SEG Research Committee Goals

 

The SEG Research Committee has the following goals and objectives:

  • Foster research for the benefit of the Society,
  • Help disseminate the results of relevant research,
  • Advise and make recommendations of matters involving research,
  • Interact with other committees and societies on research issues to ensure integration,
  • Provide new ways in which the Society and its members could be served,
  • Promote a balanced treatment of applied technology, short term and long term research,
  • Assist the industry and government entities on decisions regarding research funding.

RC proposed goals at 2007 Winter meeting in black: 

  • Foster research for the benefit of the Society,
    • Promote a balanced treatment of applied technology, short term and long term research,
    • Think tank for geoscience research
    • Emphasis on basic research and multidiscipline integration
    • Foster research efforts not related to immediate applications
  • Help disseminate the results of relevant research,
    • Provide new ways in which the Society and its members could be served,
    • Globalization setting up local offices
    • Foster dialogue, communication, and network  between researches
    • Promote decentralization of research activities
    • Run multiple workshops Organize cool workshops
    • Supporting out the box research convention speaker
  • Advise and make recommendations of matters involving research,
    • Recognize and honor researches that have worked in the good of society
  • Interact with other committees and societies on research issues to ensure integration,
    • Force interaction with other societies and build bridges
    • Foster relationships with the academic people
    • Interact with other committees and societies
  • Assist the industry and government entities on decisions regarding research funding
    • Identify the 10 grand problems of applied geosciences
  • Committees specially the RC needs to be empowered
  • Ownership of geosciences
